BIS Digital Releases White Paper on Social Distancing for Courts
April 16, 2020

Provides Insights on Implementing Tactics in the Courtroom and Technology for Remote Access.

FORT LAUDERDALE–April 16, 2020–BIS Digital, a technology solutions company specializing in audio and video integration, has published a white paper outlining key considerations for practicing social distancing in courtrooms. Social Distancing in the Courtroom outlines social distancing strategies and explores the use of remote conferencing technology for creating a virtual courtroom.

Faced with restrictions and societal challenges caused by the global outbreak of the Coronavirus and COVID-19, courts are struggling to provide access to justice while respecting government-sanctioned physical separation and stay-at-home orders.

The paper draws on BIS Digital’s four decades of providing integrated technology solutions to courts, law enforcement and other agencies. This experience has led to insights and actionable recommendations for judges, court administrators and other leaders.

“Ours is a collaborative approach,” notes Steve Coldren, president of BIS Digital. “We are totally committed to working hand-in-hand with the court administrators to restore judicial operations as quickly as possible. We have altered our technical service scheduled to install equipment at night and on weekends to practice social distancing and  minimize contact with court staff.”

BIS Digital has been promoting the benefits of incorporating technology that facilitates virtual court capabilities. While it may not always be the ideal venue for “holding court,” it offers flexibility that can reduce risks associated with transporting criminals from the jail to courthouse or operational continuity in the event of a pandemic.
